The Challenges
For years our Fire District in Fernley has struggled to meet the demands for service of our growing community. With more growth on the way, it is crucial that we support our public services to ensure our community's public safety is protected. With a growing community, we do not have enough emergency responders to Keep Fernley Safe! There are multiple times a week when our city is not covered by any firefighters due to inadequate staffing and the amount of 911 calls. When crews are unavailable, the closest resources are 20+ miles from our city, which increase response times for you or your loved ones during an emergency. Our Fire District is a NRS 474 tax district that currently operates on a budget to fund a volunteer fire department. Our Fire District provides "all risk" emergency services, including paramedic ambulance transport. The service area covers approximately 162 square miles serving approximately 20,000 residents. Our Fire District responds to more than 2900 calls annually. Our service area is unique and poses many risks including a large industrial park, major highway thoroughfare, railroad system, and much more. Our residents, visitors and businesses deserve to have reliable public services that will be there to handle any emergency.
